My life took a dramatic change on the morning of July 28, 2018, the day after my birthday, when my mom suffered a stroke. Fire rescue admitted her to Jackson North Hospital in Miami. My brothers and sister knew of the incident but did not show up.
As I stood by her bedside, looking at the tubes in her mouth and her eyes closed, a whirlwind of thoughts flooded my mind: Why me? Why now? What am I going to do?
After my mom’s stroke, her speech slurred. She can only express herself with limited words like “baby” and “paper.” Frustrating it is that we found ourselves resorting to charades to communicate.
While managing her finances, I discovered she was paying $230 monthly for a $30,000 life insurance policy. This revelation sparked my curiosity about the insurance industry. I became a licensed insurance broker and was able to rewrite the same $30,000 policy for $105 a month.
The ordeal of my mom’s stroke ignited my passion for helping others find insurance products that meet their needs. My experience has changed my perspective on life.
